The Lame Word

Last night was the L Word’s series finale and it was incredibly uneventful, to say the least. There weren’t any surprises or resolutions… Nothing, the show simply sucked. I’m not even sure what I was expecting from a show that has given us nothing in the past couple of years.

Who dunnit? Who killed Jenny? Who cares? I can honestly say that of all the episodes in the past 6 years, this one simply never got my attention. I really didn’t want to continue watching the show because I simply wasn’t interested… Of course I watched the whole thing (I mean, it’s our duty, no!?!) but it was pretty terrible. When the show ended we were all like “well, ok, see you later. Bye.”

The show didn’t tie up any loose ends at all and many questions were left unanswered. Lame. Just lame. Did Max keep the baby? Did Bette & Tina adopt the baby? And what exactly happened to Jesse from Saved by the Bell? Was it necessarily to have Dylan and Helena break up? Whatever, it was lame.

Get Your Guts in Gear Ride 2009: a ride to finding the cure to Crohn’s

Here we go once again! Dar and I are once again doing the Get Your Guts in Gear (GYGiG) bike ride, June 12 - 14. What exactly is the GYGiG bike ride? It’s a 210-mile bike that starts in midtown NYC and goes all the way up north to Saratoga Springs, NY. The ride averages 70 miles a day with two overnight camping stops.

http://www.ibdride.com/downloads/GYGIG_New_York_Ride_Map.pdf

The days are long, hot and difficult. I never really liked biking and my idea of camping is staying at a hotel near the camping grounds. So when Dar mentioned last year that she was doing this crazy 210-mile bike ride I almost choked on my coffee… then I sat down, put things into perspective and decided to sign up… no bike, no experience, no nothing… just signed up.

The ride was grueling and at multiple times during the ride I asked myself, “Why am I doing this?” “What am I doing here?” “I should’ve trained for this. It’s so hot, I’m so tired. I’m so not ready for this…” But as soon as the registration opened for this year’s ride, I signed up immediately.

So, why on earth am I doing it again? That’s easy. Finding a cure for Crohn’s. Crohn’s disease is an ongoing disorder that causes inflammation of the digestive tract. It can affect any area of the GI tract, but it most commonly affects the lower part of the small intestine, called the ileum. 1932 a New Yorker, Dr. Burrill Bernard Crohn, published an important paper describing the features of the then relatively unknown condition, Crohn’s disease. Although Crohn's affects many people (Dar being one of them), there is still no known cure. And considering that we have knows about this disease for over 75 years, I say it’s time we find the cure. So this is why I do the GYGiG bike tour.

This is a fundraising ride and we each need to raise $1,800, so please visit our website and help us raise $3,600. Trust me, every little bit counts!!

Little bits of knowledge:

Did you know that the following famous people have Crohn’s?

Beth Orton
Mike McCready, guitarist from Pearl Jam
Chris Conley
Anastacia Kirkland
Marvin Bush, George Dubya Bush’s baby brother
Shannon Doherty
Dwight David Eisenhower (at the time known as ileitis disease)
Rolf Benirschke, former placekicker for San Diego Chargers
David Garrard, quarterback for Jacksonville Jaguars

Obama’s Inauguration today

I’ve never really cared about politics nor have I been so excited about a President’s Inauguration. However, today we made history (well, November 4th, really) but today it is official: Barack Obama
has been sworn in as our President. Not gonna lie, I shed a few tears while he was being sworn in. Finally, the horrific Bush era has come to an end. It certainly was long overdue. It is evident by the crowd’s reaction that this change was way overdue. The crowd could not contain themselves as he paraded down the street on his way to the White House; they were crying, jumping, and shouting his name like teeny boppers at a Jonas Brothers concert… a very exciting thing to witness. And despite the bitter cold, over 2 million people attended the inauguration and stuck around for the parade.

Some words that immediately came to mind while listening to his speech were: Pride, Hope, Tolerance, Progress and Responsibility. I once again have hope in this nation and I’m looking forward to four (hopefully eight) years of progress and change.

On another note, hope all is well with Senator Kennedy who suffered a pretty bad stroke during the Inauguration lunch.

Tina Fey does Palin

Although this is old by now, I feel like I need to post this just in case you missed it. Tina Fey's impersonation of Sarah Palin is uncanny. Scary because on this past weekend's skit, she actually used words and phrases that Palin said during her interview with Katie Couric.

This woman is simply not President material. She has no idea what she is talking about when asked questions. It's very scary to think that many people out there are oblivious to this obvious fact.
